December Book Club Report
We talked about Kate Adie’s autobiography A Kindness of Strangers. Varied opinions – not a warm character; very little personal details given away; good insight on reporting and what is required, a picture of the happening not an opinion – this could be construed as unsympathetic, but then is a reporter supposed to be sympathetic?; good use of language; she gave an impression of being a rebel; did not meet expectations (needed personal feeling?); “a life style but not a life”. Short notes but a long discussion.
