July Book Club Report
Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky (Sindy).
Comments as follows: It was to be written as a trilogy, only two parts finished due to the tragic death of the author. A gem of a book; good description of Paris between the wars, the classes, the arts, fashion; too many transient characters; characters not likeable/could sympathise with the characters; the story of the occupation was too lengthy; preferred the author’s notes to her story; perhaps it should be taken as a loving interpretation of her work, as her daughter edited the notes, having found them many years after the death of the author.
