September Book Club Report
The Prime of Miss Brodie by Muriel Spark (Mavis who we sorely miss).
Comments as follows: It reminded us all of our schooldays and particular teachers, so some reminiscing; fascinating how Miss Brodie constantly misread her girls who seemed an unprepossessing bunch. She was a manipulative woman and a realistic character as were the girls; found difficulty in empathising with the complexities of the characters; somewhat repetitive in reading the same short descriptions of the girls throughout the book – a reminder maybe; it was written with flashbacks so was a slow read; the enjoyment appeared to be the comparison with education of “gels” pre WW11 versus after, as well as the machinations of various characters.
